BCM recently attended the prestigious West African Mining & Power Expo (WAMPEX) held from June 5th to 7th, 2024, in Accra, Ghana. At WAMPEX 2024, BCM celebrated a remarkable safety milestone: achieving 10 million man-hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI). This achievement reflects the company’s unwavering dedication to safety, rigorous training programs, and robust operational protocols. It highlights BCM’s leadership in maintaining high safety standards and ensuring a secure working environment for its employees.
During the conference, we also unveiled our new brand, BCM Engineering Limited. This strategic expansion marks a significant evolution in our service offerings, positioning the company to provide comprehensive engineering solutions alongside its established mining operations. BCM Engineering Limited aims to leverage cutting-edge technologies and innovative methodologies to deliver top-tier engineering services, reinforcing our reputation as a versatile and forward-thinking industry leader.
At the event, BCM showcased its commitment to innovation and operational efficiency through its exhibitors and speakers. Improvement Officer Ama Duose-Bansah highlighted engineering excellence, while Superintendent Kinta Petonia elucidated strategic business development. Operations Analyst Kwadwo Addo offered insights into inventory management and operational dynamics. Constancia Kuu-Aleh and Adwoa Yeboah from the Corporate Affairs Team discussed corporate branding, communication strategies, and social responsibility initiatives, emphasizing sustainable development and community engagement.
Highlights from the Women in Mining Meeting
BCM’s Women in Mining Chapter participated in the Women in Mining meeting at WAMPEX, addressing key issues related to leveraging technology for the development of women and managing mental health and gender-based issues in the office.
Leveraging Technology for Development:
- Introducing technology programs and syllabi at the basic level of education, such as teaching coding and computer programming.
- Encouraging continuous self-improvement by leveraging technology through online courses, educational YouTube videos, and other digital learning platforms.
Managing Mental Health and Gender-Based Issues:
- Acknowledging the existing obstacles and challenges in the office space.
- Analyzing the influences that these obstacles may have on employees.
- Providing recommendations on mitigation and prevention to avoid the recurrence of incidents or issues.
Additionally, one of the main issues raised was the difficulty for pregnant students and women to continue their education in Ghana, highlighting the need for more supportive policies and resources.
